Language exemptions

Please remember to apply for your NUI language exemption for matriculation purposes.  This is not the same as a DES – Department of Education exemption.

Remember failure to get an exemption from 2nd or 3rd languages could lead to you not getting  your college place.

You can pick up a form in guidance or download one from http://www.nui.ie    Applications for exemption are accepted up to July ( check details) put you should apply now so that you can have it registered on your May Statement of Application.

If you are applying on grounds of SLD or absence from Ireland at primary or post – primary you will need to see your Guidance Counsellor to get addtional forms and signatures.

Students applying to non NUI colleges usually need one addtional language.  If you do not study any language other than English you will need an exemption from languages to gain entry to TCD and some other colleges.  This is a separate application.

Come and see us in guidance if you need any help.
