Here are some of the events and activities for 6th year guidance:
All 6th year students continue to meet individually with their guidance counsellors. Students can call into the Guidance Department or mail us to arrange an appointment. We are also happy to respond to queries by email. The guidance counsellors are Tracy Brady & Penny Hayes. Our emails are – firstname.lastname@example.org & email@example.com
All students attend the Higher Options Third Level Fair in the RDS on Wednesday 16th September. This is a great opportunity to talk with representatives of HEI’s and to attend lectures. This is a non- uniform event.
Continuing on the guidance programme in 4th and 5th year all students are scheduled to attend a 3 week module covering essential guidance information on how to research and apply for third level courses. These will take place in the first term during the double period for PE and the dates are listed in the 6th year centre.
The college will also host visiting speakers from HEI’s and students can sign up to attend these talks which will be advertised on the blog and in registration.
CAO information meeting this term for students and their families. Date to be announced.
Students are encouraged to use their personalised REACH programme and their career room portal to build on their course research.
HPAT preparation will be starting soon for applicants to medicine.
As part of the 5th year interviews all students researched a course and wrote a personal statement. Students applying for courses in the UK and further afield are now working on improving and refining these for their applications. Teachers and guidance counsellors are available to help.
We will be holding lunchtime meetings again this term to help with UCAS applications, personal statements and CAO research.
The bereavement support group meets on Tuesday at lunchtime in the guidance library. This is our third year and new members are always welcome. Come and see Ms Hayes if you want to find out more. Bring your lunch.
